PRS or Personal Response System is
a combination of the
- presence of special receivers
(hardware) in a classroom,
- use of an application called Turning
Point by faculty to create powerpoint slides with
questions to be answered by students; and
- a keypad or "clicker"
that students purchase and use in classrooms licensed
with the software and with the receivers to enable
their use.
For a general overview of PRS systems
and their use in teaching, please read Educause's
7 Things to Know About PRS (pdf).
Turning Point is a
software application that provides faculty the ability
to make PowerPoint presentations interactive. Students
use handheld keypads to answer instructor's questions
created in PowerPoint through a simple toolbar added
by Turning Point. The interactivity provides the capability
to reinforce curriculum, monitor student progress, and
increase student participation.
Turning Point works
in tandem with Personal Response System keypads. Students
purchase PRS keypads from the University Bookstore and
use them to answer class questions similar to polling
the audience on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”.
